By means of a global network of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites and accompanying ground infrastructure, ORBCOMM’s low-cost and reliable two-way data communications products and services track, monitor and control mobile and fixed assets in four core markets: commercial transportation; heavy equipment; industrial fixed assets; and marine/homeland security. The Company’s products are installed on trucks, containers, marine vessels, locomotives, backhoes pipelines, oil wells, utility meters, storage tanks and other assets. ORBCOMM is headquartered in Fort Lee, New Jersey with offices in Virginia and Japan.
Responsibilities
ORBCOMM is seeking a highly motivated and experienced satellite systems engineer to join a small engineering team environment at this commercial satellite communications company. The Satellite Systems Engineer will be directly responsible for the health, maintenance, and satellite operations planning for the current LEO satellite constellation currently in orbit (OG1) and the new ORBCOMM Generation 2 (OG2) satellites planned for launch within the next year. The satellite systems engineer will also participate in all technical functions of the satellite engineering group including systems engineering analysis, design and test, satellite health monitoring, on orbit performance analysis, and anomaly resolution.
Typical duties include:

On-call support to maintain the health and availability of the ORBCOMM satellites

Engineering analysis to verify compliance to operational constraints

Analyzing short- and long-term data trends

Developing/maintaining tools to model, verify, and improve responsible subsystems

Supporting development of next-generation constellation satellite operations

Supporting launch activities

Supporting on-orbit testing and data collection
-
Developing test plans and conducting tests in a lab environment

Performing anomaly resolution

Working closely with Network Control Center (NCC) operations team

Shift work required as needed
Requirements
-
U.S. citizenship (or legal permanent residence) and a BS in Engineering or related discipline with at least 5 years of satellite systems engineering experience is required

Experience with Matlab, UNIX, STK, Java, JAS Scripting language, C++ is desirable
